Privacy
Many people are concerned about the privacy
of what they share in therapy. There
are two things that most clients need to know about privacy. One is that
managed health care plans usually require that some of the information
you share with your therapist be sent to a case manager who determines
whether you may use your
benefit. The training and credentials of a case manager is totally at
the discretion
of the managed care company. It is also important for you to know that
once the information leaves my office I can no longer control what happens
to it.
Second, the fact that you have been in therapy
may affect your ability to obtain
private health insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance. Despite
these
conditions you can you control where the information goes and who has access
to it. The best way to maintain complete control of your confidential information
is to by-pass the managed care and insurance companies. I can develop
a method
a payment for you so you remain in control of your information. I would
be happy
to talk to you about your options.
